Fine ‘Battle of the Nile’ documentary Creamware Jug, circa 1800

$775.00

A good documentary creamware pitcher featuring the climactic event of the Battle of the Nile: the dramatic explosion of the French flagship ‘L’Orient’ after heavy close-quarters fighting in the mouth of the Nile.

Reverse depicts a pioneering engineering event - the construction of the Wearmouth bridge in England, only the second single-span iron bridge in the world. Construction began in 1793, with the 245ft span inaugurated in 1796 to much acclaim. Interestingly, the bridge was made of Iron at the suggestion of famed writer and Enlightenment thinker Thomas Paine.
