19th century traveling Apothecary Chest

$575.00

A traveling apothecary’s chest from the mid-19th century. Solidly made in walnut with brass exterior fittings, the chest unusually retains most of its original interiors and tools.

The British apothecary was the predecessor to our modern day pharmacists. Traveling apothecaries followed a circuit and used their knowledge of herbal and chemical ingredients to supply doctors, surgeons, and other medical professionals in towns too small to have a local expert.

British, circa 1840, case of walnut and brass, interior with antique apothecary tools and containers.

Good overall condition, with exterior wear and repair, retaining almost all antique interior fittings.
